Attire plays a very important role in dance education.

On a sports team, players are required to wear a uniform and safety equipment. At dance, students are required to wear the proper attire. Dressing for dance enforces discipline and enables teachers to properly see and correct dancers’ technique.

Adherence to the dress code will be checked and marked every week alongside class attendance. After 3 consecutive weeks of dress code violations, dancers will be asked to sit and observe class instead of participating. Repeated dress code violations are not acceptable.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Hair

Hair that is shoulder length or shorter must be pulled away from the face, at least half-up/half-down.

Hair longer than shoulder length must be secured in a ponytail or bun.

We suggest you place hair supplies (hair ties, bobby pins, hairspray, etc.) in your child’s dance bag in case they forget to pull it back before arriving.

A student will not be allowed to take class if their hair is not pulled back.

Jewelry

Jewelry is not allowed in class. This includes dangling or hoop earrings (studs are acceptable), necklaces, bracelets, rings, and anklets.

We ask that you leave all jewelry at home to avoid being asked to remove it, creating the potential for it to be lost or misplaced. We are not responsible for jewelry items that are lost or stolen at the studio.

Shoes

No street shoes or outside footwear will be allowed in the classrooms.

We encourage you to refrain from wearing your dance shoes outside of the studio, even when walking to and from your car. These shoes can be an expensive investment, and we encourage you to protect them. Your dance shoes, especially hip-hop sneakers, should absolutely not be worn as daily street shoes.

Dancers 7+ should purchase plain leotards.

Additional Accessories

For all dancers - pull-on skirts, shorts, leg warmers, dance sweaters and other accessories are not allowed. Students will be asked to remove all clothing items besides their tights and leotard.

Hair

There are very specific hair requirements for ballet.

Long hair must be slicked back into a parted-low ponytail or bun, or slicked up into a high bun.

Short hair must be pulled away from the face, at least half-up/half-down.

Hair must be secure and free of flyaways.

High ponytails and loose hairstyles of any kind are not acceptable, and the student will be asked to fix their hair before beginning class.

DO NOT WEAR REGULAR STREET SNEAKERS

Clothing

Dancers may wear any appropriate tshirt or tank top with leggings. Think “workout class” or “athleisure.”

Dancers may not wear crop tops, jeans, baggy sweatshirts or harem pants. All clothing must fit appropriately. Low cut shirts, crop tops, shirts that fall off the shoulder, and pants that fall down are a distraction to the class and the teacher.

BOYS

Inquire about attire upon registration. In most cases, a plain tshirt and black dance pants are acceptable.
